i used to have a 10 year old turtle (forget the species) but in my state (north carolina) its illegal now. Find slugs outside and put them into the tank (they LOVE them) other than that shrimp tails they adore as well!. (this is all an amphibious turtle ofc) box turtle or tortoise i have no experience with

I once had a turtle.I left it in her own little paradise pool for a couple of minutes then she disappeared, ignoring the physical existence of the cage around it.

I don't HAVE one but I had two when i was very young, they were the silver dollar sized ones-
Chiquita and Houdini- also grew up with friends with Desert tortoises.

What type are you thinking about getting?

Probably a "red eared slider"
those are the most common ones I think

Did you have it for 10 years, or did you adopt it when it was 10 years?

You'd think so, but it totally disappeared. I have a feeling it just dug itself a hole underneath the wiring and god stuck in the undergrowth. Turtles are mischievous cretins.
