make sure you catch your dog beforehand next time and put them outside, it will remember that it is supposed to do it outside.

Decent advice. Had a similar problem with my basement. I caught him once and he hasnt pooped down there since.

Terrible advice in my opinion. If your dog is trained to go outside and is only pooping in the house because he is ill, then why would you punish the dog for that?
It may very well know it's not supposed to poop in the house and can't do anything about it.

He never said anything about punishment...he said catch him and put him outside.

If you think that's punishment you need to reevaluate your definition of the word.

Dogs are trained with positive and negative reinforcement.

Grabbing your dog and forcing him outside, for whatever reason, is not positive reinforcement.
The dog may associate pooping in the house with the negative reinforcement of being forced outside.
But the dog won't make any association with pooping in the house and going outside. By the time you get the dog outside it will have probably forgotten about pooping entirely.

So, to reiterate, you would be punishing your dog for being ill.

Not even close. The dog obviously knew the rule beforehand. If you were to catch the dog pooping or getting ready to poop you'd take it outside. If not you'd what? Watch it shit in your bedroom and then put it in timeout. I have 3 dogs, all rescues from shitty situations. All 3 of them learned quickly and without any "punishment". If the dog was trained before it's possible a single refresher would do the trick.

Reward the dog for pooping outside and not scold him for pooping inside.
Reinforce the behavior you desire with positive reinforcement.
