My thermostat for my uth malfunctioned, and the heating pad burnt out. My snake just laid on top of it while it was way to hot even for my hands. He has a white belly, and a good section of it is brown and crusty and I can even see pickish/bloody flesh on some parts. I had a vet check and he removed the crust and gave me instructions. I have been following the instructions, but it doesn't seem to be getting better. and I am worried about him

He still moves around a lot, and doesn't seem to be angry or stressed, but I just feel bad.

Am I still allowed to feed him?

Check up with vet if you feel it's causing a problem, if he issued you to go home and it wasnt that serious, he's probably right, but as always a vet will tell you its never wrong to call if you're worried, better safe than sorry.


to me it sounds fine.

If the vets seen the snake, follow the care advised. Try feeding and keeping relatively warm. What type of snake is it? What type of setup, etc. I keep 13 snakes at the moment, so may be able to give some advice.

W on the heating mat?

not sure but it was a small zoomed pad. It burned out and turned brown.

I got a small one that can't even reach a certain temp to replace it.

Yes I got a prescription ointment for it and I have also used betadine every single day. This us the 5th day of treatment and he seems to be doing a lot better. The first couple days he wouldn't even put that second of his body into the betadine solution but I guess not he understand that it is helping him. He sits in it with ought trying to escape now until I take him out. I'm going to try feeding in an hour. The vet said that if he doesn't think he can handle it he won't eat. Also if it hurts him while the mouse is inside he will naturally regurgitate the food. I'm hoping for the best though.

Update. He is still acting healthy. He just ate without an issue at all. I gave him his medicine and changed all his stuff in his game.

It looked a lot worse than this before, but I am picking off more of these scabs every day. Hopefully by his next shed he will be fully recovered.
