Hey guys so last week I adopted 2 "teenage" cats who were siblings.
They have started to fight each other (not playing) and the girl started out biting me, no pressure. She hasn't pierced skin but I don't want her to continue to bite harder. I just don't like the aggression. Anyone have past experience with this?

I also have a 5 year old in the house and I'm not sure how to explain to her that cats aren't like dogs.

When I separate them and lock one in a room and leave the other one out, the one I left out becomes loving. Is this some kind of turf war?

We adopted two cats a few years ago and they were both rescue cats. One was feral and the other was found in a storm drain. Long story short, it took them almost a year to really bond with us. There awesome and amazing but it can take them a while to adjust to all the changes they just went through.

You need to teach your cats what a proper play object is.
You need to play with your cats until they're laying on the floor panting. Might need to do this a few times a day.
You need to provide a cat hwy to stop unwanted encounters in the areas they've been acting aggressive towards eachother.
You need to always supervise your child around pets as if your child hits/over handles/treats the cats like a dog/does something the cats don't like. They will respond towards your child eventually. Not only but that could make your cats believe a hand is a play object.
If you want a peaceful house actions need to be taken. Contact a behaviorist in your area for further info on how to have a peaceful house.

I personally suggest to my clients that if their child is under the age of 6 or 7 all interaction with household pets needs to be with adult supervision.
