Thinking about adopting a kitten but I'm working pretty hectic hours. Apartment is on smaller side but pets are allowed. Think the cat could be self sustaining within a month or so for the better part of the day? Let's say on average I get home around 10 PM.

Also, any suggestions on the best/cheapest ways to adopt a kitten?

if you're not gonna be home you should get 2 kittens, so they can play with eachother and dont wreck havoc in your apartment!

around where I live you can adopt cats for $100 and dogs for $200

thats at an animal shelter, so I recommend going to 1 if that wasn't your plan!

Get an older cat.

Kittens are evil, as well.

You really suggest getting two kittens?

I would really suggest not getting kittens at all. Especially if you aren't there to raise them.

They will just develop behavioral issues.

Getting an older cat (or two, as suggested) would be a better idea.

Thanks all for the advice.

If i'm available to raise it through its kitten weeks/early months. Do you think it would be okay as a young cat?

The period where kittens adjust to people and stuff is between like 2-12? weeks.

I'm not exactly versed in pet care, but I imagine that behavioral problems are a result of improper socialization.

If you're adopting from a shelter (and you should), I'd just kill 2 birds with one stone. Save an older kitty, and avoid getting your furniture shredded prior to declawing.
