i love animals & i'm 19 but my mum wont allow me to keep any of them because apparently they're not suited for
apartments and they lose too much hair etc lol.. makes no sense.

Guess that just depends on the animals patience. Some don't like being left at home, with on where to roam, or a yard to play in

Tell her that you will get a dog that does not shed.
Convince her that you will take care of it and walk it everyday.

You get dogs that dont shed as much, I sggest reading up on all the low shedding dog breeds and find the best 1 suited for your lifestyle. Discus it with your mother and see if you can come to an agreement, Dogs are pack animals ( family ) so its best that the family agree.

I know nothin about cats so not helpin you :p

how long will you still live with your mum?
often a kid wants a pet and in the end the parents end up with it

so better start thinking about what you wan to do in the next 10-15 years or even 20-25 years (cats live often that long)
is it now the right time for getting a pet or should you wait a few years?
not sure if available at your place but here you can 'foster' a dog from local refugees / pounds
you take them for walks a few times during the week and might keep them over the weekend
check if something like this is available and maybe you can convince your mum to try that

It is really important to consider how long you will be able to be there for your dog every day and if you will be able to spend enough time to properly take care of it while you go to school or do other activities. Pets live a long time and they are a big commitment. I would suggest getting a small poodle, they are great dogs and will not shed as much as other breeds. Consider the cost of having a dog, will your parent really want to pay for all the vet bills, food, toys, etc? Consider offering to pay for certain necessities. If your parent doesn't think you aren't responsible enough to take care of a pet, show her that you are by become reliable doing other chores around the house or becoming more responsible. As long as you put a lot into taking care and training your pet, they will be able to live comfortably with you and your parent in the apartment.

Your mom is right. You shouldn't have an animal in an apartment.

i had a cat in an apartment. it was fine. cats are alot less needy than dogs and they don't need to be walked and all that. just feed it, give it some water, clean its litter and show it some lovin' and that's all you gotta do.
