1: What is the Year, Make, and Model of the vehicle. 1996 BMW Z3
2: What is your budget? 1,800 for parts and labor
3: What exactly do you want your outcome to be? (Good sounding music, or loud bass?) Best of both worlds preferably - I'm not looking to go down the street shaking storefronts. Given this, the emphasis would be on good sounding audio - with decent enough bass to hit the low low's at a decent volume. Keep in mind this car is a soft top and will have its top down most of the time, so volume will be played at 30-50 (max is 60) on the highway.
4: And specific sub sizes that you prefer more than others? No preference due to ignorance. However, keep in mind that a sub would either have to be cutout to fit inbetween and slightly behind the 2 headrests in the car (where there is currently a small compartment (deep in length, but shallow in depth)) or in the trunk (the car seats you at the mid section if you're not familiar, slightly towards the back).
5: How much trunk space do you want to use up? If I need to, I'd be willing to use some space , as a quarter of the trunk is already taken up by something I believe (unsure - it's just how the trunk is shaped - im not talking about the recess for the soft top)
6: What type of features are you looking for in a CD Player (aka Head Unit)? (Ex: USB, AUX, BlueTooth, etc) There is already a "newer" head unit in the car - not sure exactly make and model, though I'd probably have it replaced. The reason I'm saying this is because there is already bluetooth setup in the car for phonecalls. I'd like bluetooth, usb, aux, and preferably customize-able LED display. Not sure if there are other common features that I'd like that I just don't already know of.
7: What type of music do you listen to? To share my "spectrum" i'll name a few artists from different genres: Old maroon 5, John Mayer, Michelle Branch, Kid Cudi, Eminem, Most top 50/pop, Creed, Vertical Horizon.. Basically everything except instrumental music and hardcore rap/metal.
8: Is your stock stereo system amplified? (You may or may not know this) I do not know this unfortunately :(
9: Do you have Steering Wheel Controls? (Volume/Seek on the steering wheel) No.

tl;dr: bmw z3, space limited due to size and nature of car. ~2k budget, likely a tad less. Suggestions or input from experience is appreciated.

Thanks :)

/edit: One important note - anything that will put more-than necessary/typical stress on the alternator is a no go, unless you recommend replacing it in the overall upfront cost. I do not do most of my own work, as its a BMW and a tad complicated for my knowledge. I do not want a lot of issues down the road. So if I need a alt upgrade (obv with big 3 upgrade) to run your recommendation, please include that in your text + estimated upfront cost. Thanks for understanding :)

Get a good quality 10 inch sub or two. Any good kicker, jl, alpine, even kenwood can sounds nice. Bigger you go the more problems you'll have with your car I promise. see how the stock speakers are even a cheap upgrade can make it sounds a whole lot better.

Get a Fi 10 or ssa 10 or something.
I currently have two jl audio w1v2 12 in my truck and they hit the lows surprisingly well especially for being in a sealed box. They respond to as low as 24 hz and sound output at 26. In a sealed box!
As far as pricing goes...JL is expensive . but overall they are amazing speakers. I've heard every w series speaker and the quality is always there. I got mine used at a pawn shop :P
