this is for home theater but I figured someone may be able to help

I have 2 older cerwin vega vs-120 loudspeakers with 12inch woofers built in

I have a Crown XLS 2500 power amp, I am not the best with certain things about audio so here is my situation

the crown has certain modes I can choose from and I can also apply low and high filters. I am trying to get a mix of high output from the tweeters in the speakers while getting booming bass from the subs

I am not sure the settings I should use to achieve this. currently have the speakers wired directly to the power amp.


here is a question. would there be a way to wire the speakers to a receiver then use the pre/amp output to connect to the power amp and can use the power amp as a low pass filter to power the woofers while the receiver powers the tweeters.

The VS-120s only have a single set of speaker wire plugs, so you can only run one set from the amp to each speaker (you can't bi-amp these). However, the VS-120 has internal crossovers, to send the low frequencies to the sub, and the mids and highs to the other drivers. As such, you don't need to use the crossover function of the amp (and it really wouldn't work, since you can't run separate wires to the woofers and tweeters, anyway). Run the amp in standard Stereo Bypass mode, with one speaker connected to each speaker channel. The speakers are 4-Ohm speakers, and the amp is rated to be stable at 2 Ohms, so you're good there. Note: The VS-120 is rated for 250W max, and that Crown amp will put out 775W at 4-Ohms in a stereo configuration. So you'll want to be careful to not blow those speakers. If you check the manual for the amp, there should be a feature Crown calls Peak-x, which is designed to set the amp at levels which will prevent speaker clipping.
