Well since it's a ford ranger and nobody cares about them anyway :P you could always replicate what some pro's do
Look on youtube you'll see vids of it, but here's what some do....
Remove the plastic from behind the seats
measure and cut a large large hole almost the entire size of the rear bed of the cab, through the bed of the cab.
Do the same for the bed to match the hole now in the cab
fit a 8 inch thick piece of rubber between both holes and cut excess to leave a 1 inch lip on both sides
heat and mold that lip around the outer edges
place sub box in the bed of the cab facing the cab flush against the rubber, and begin weather sealing it all and building a custom weather seal box to go over it. OR be smart and buy a tonneu cover :P
If you buy a hard cover rather than a soft one it will be a pain to go in to work on the system when needed but it can also act as a giant amplifier if you face AND port the subs to the bed of the truck.
note: don't forget to bolt the sub enclosure to the bed of the truck.
Option #2
Buy a self powered sub that you'll be disappointed in if you were expecting a massage but if your not wanting something huge, or go the rougher route and do what your thinking of doing now, (sub + amp behind the seats)
Tbh though if it's bass you want, Kicker used to be good apparently, but anymore they completely such. If you want tru deep thump bass out of your sub enclosed or ported, go for JL's or my personal preference, Infinity Reference series subs :)
Kicker has stooped so low lately to be walmart crap :P they are the only sub+speakers I've seen sold in Walmart so far
You must be joking because kicker has one of the top speakers out on the market today (QS series) Google it. Not only that they have the l7's and the solo X. Just because they are selling their lower end merchandise at walmart doesnt mean its shit. Its actually smart for then to do this because it is vastly increasing their bottom line. By putting their lower end stock for purchase at walmart kicker is supplying the demand for lower income clientele. In addition just in case you didn't know kicker has 4 different series of speakers starting with their lower end model DS then CS then KS and finally their top line QS. Not only that kicker also is in the top 5 of the competition series speakers. Imo kicker QS series is even better than the pioneer A-Series (because ive had both) which has the #1 rating for car audio.
