generally worse.

you have to pay a lot more for a shallow mount to get one that actually performs on par with a regular subwoofer.

example:

regular alpine type r http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_45521_Alpine-SWR-12D4.html

shallow mount type r http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_27183_Alpine-SWR-T12.html

shallow mounts are only a worthwhile choice if you have no other option because they have some huge hurdles to overcome.

worse all around specs on the shallow mount but it cost twice as much.

the new shallow type rs down sound too terrible, but yeah whole point of a sub is to hit deep bass

big sound needs a big box

So even if I could fit the Rockford P3s with a box that fits under my seats that would be too small? What if I cut air holes out so it could get air?

then you'd most likely cause the subwoofers to mechanically fail or sound terrible or both.

they need certain air space under certain conditions not just any ol box will do.

the problem with the box and p3s is the mounting depth not the air space.

Well I could cut out the middle so it stands down a little more then add a inch or two above the box so it has more space?

3/4 inch mdf boards on top of mounting spots would be fine. just gotta remove carpet and glue the second face on then glue the carpet back on.

Will that provide enough space and air?

Will it also fit nice under my seats

yes and yes

i don't know. i told you before that you'll need to do the measuring yourself to see if it works.

any reason you are stuck on these p3s? there is no point in going through all this trouble when there are so many options that fit.
