13.75 is the cutout but the screw holes are further out than that. cutout is just what you need to make the backside go into the box. so you'll be putting screws less than an inch away from the edge and the edge will probably come all apart from it.
if it was hardwood this would be less of an issue but mdf likes to break all apart so any screws near the edge usually means you just ruint that piece of mdf.
dropping port width to 4 or 4.3 inches would do the trick. 4 drops it down to 30.5hz and 4.3 about 32hz.
this also gives you more air for the sub chamber which will help it perform better.
yeah the trunk space issue is something that would of been good to consider beforehand. these smaller boxes waste the full potential of that sub but it should still be fine.
