Hi,
First of all, thank you for trying to help me fix my car (2003 Toyota Echo). For 2 consecutive drives, the sound on my radio/cd player would go on and off. Then, on the third drive, I had
no sound at all for the whole drive but the radio : I could change radio channels and the CD could be read by the disc player.
Then, when I tried to start the car for the fourth drive, the battery was completely dead. I charged the car over night and was able to start it the next morning. I turned it off and searched the Internet to find out why my sound was still not working. I found out that a common issue was the a wire in the rear speaker assembly could have broken off and could be touching the frame of the car, grounding the current. I inspected the speaker and noticed the black audio wire was broken off and was tucked against the inside top wall of the trunk (metal). I bent it the other way, started the car again and then I was happy to hear that I had sound again. I thought that was the end of my issues.
The next morning, after not having driven the car the previous day, I tried to start the car and it was completely dead again. (The battery is of high quality and was purchased last year. It was tested and is still working fine.)
So... I decided to pull out the speaker and take a picture and ask for your help.
1. Is the simplest fix to simply not put the speaker back in and leave it as is?
If I do not plug it back in, will I get sound from my car's other speakers? (I really don't care if no sound comes out from that 1 speaker slot).
2. Could this wiring issue be the reason why my battery is going flat overnight?
3. Any other suggestions? (I do not want to spend a lot of money into this repair, because it is only my secondary car and I use it very rarely).
