I have a 2005 Mazda 6 (s sport model, I believe) with stock Bose system.

I was cleaning out the garage and came across a pair of Polk Audio db690 (6"x9" 3-ways) just sitting in the box. They should still work as I remember purchasing them years back, but never used.

What would I need to do to install these? (do they need an amp? or can I swap them for the speakers in the back?)

Or is it not even worth my time?



In addition, I would really like a better sounding system for the entire car. I would prefer to spend less than $500 (not sure if that's possible). I listen to all music except country, primarily rock, hip-hop/R&B, some rap.

stock bose systems usually run at a weird impedance so you don't want to stick any speakers in until you can bypass/remove the bose stuff.

depending on the cost of installation parts a $500 budget should be fine depending on your wants/needs.

if you want a touch screen head unit for example it's going to cost about $100 more than a non-touch single din unit.

and a subwoofer is probably out of the question unless you want to go a bit higher because you don't wanna buy super cheap stuff just to save a bit of money.

I was hoping to just keep the stock head unit; this model Mazda has a very large dash and everything looks nice matching.

I can do most of the installation myself, I have installed a few sub systems... but years ago... was going to read/watch guides on how to install to refresh myself.

Do you think it would be best to just sell these Polks on c.list? Or keep them and use when I get all the components?

considering they are a generation behind i would recommend selling them so you can get similar spec'd speakers all around.

something like this keeps it looking nice but allows for an aftermarket head unit.

theres a double din model but it looks like these dash kits are around $200 either way.
