Just thinking of getting a pair of speakers for the parcel shelf for now, most likely going to upgrade rest of the speakers in the near future.
I'd like to have them connected to an amplifier, cause I find the sound a lot more enjoyable.

wait until you are going to replace them all so you can get an amp that will surely work for all of them.

that being said see if there its a hertz audio dealer in your area.

Was thinking of having the amp just for the 6/9's.

And there is a hertz dealer not far from here.

if your going for pure sound quality go with a nice set of components and some nice midbass.. try and stick with round speakers they tend to sound way better and try to keep everything in the front. rear fill is pretty much a waste and really doesnt make the sound quality any better.. check out crescendo and soundqubed components and stay away from super tweeters

So I'll probably skip the 6x9s and focus on upgrading the rest of the speakers.

So my head unit (Kenwood 4023bt) supports 4x50w, which would mean the maximum RMS wattage the speakers can have is 50w,
if I understand it correctly(?)

And let's say I'd like to add a subwoofer in the future, I should hook up a mono block amplifier with the subwoofer pre-out on the stereo, right?

Does anyone know the specs for the original Saab 9-5 AS2 speakers?

you can keep the 6x9 slots active. just gotta use adapter plates on them to convert them to 6.5 inch round speakers.

your head unit is 22rms. that 50 is a peak rating which is practically worthless.

that's correct.

and god knows on the factory speakers. once you take one out you can look on the back and try to find out more specific info on them.

22rms or higher. you can put 2000rms speakers on it if you wanted but its more of a limiting factor for the head unit not a limiting factor on speakers.

Another question, irrelevant to the set up I'm going to use, but I'm just curious.

Let's say you've got a set of speakers, say 60w rms, 300w peak (took info from first pair of speakers I found, in this case a pair of Sony 6x9"'s)
and you use an amplifier with following specs; 4x50w rms - 4x100 peak@4ohm / 2x150w rms - 2x300w peak@4ohm

Would you;
1) Not bridge the amp, use two channels
2) Bridge the amp
3) Toss the amp away because it can't run the speakers
