Best 4 Speakers For The Price And Soundproofing - Topic

so I have a 2002 ford taurus se and I would like to upgrade the audio system. Would I need a subwoofer for a good amount of bass or can 4 really good speakers do the job? I want to try and avoid the whole amplifier plus subwoofer thing if I can. I could live with an amp if the 4 speakers need it because I can put the amp the seat. Also should I upgrade the alternator and/or replace the battery with better speakers? The main concern with the subwoofer is it would reduce the room in the vehicle (sometimes I have to pack it with alot of stuff plus kids) Oh and I have a stock deck would I need to replace that for the better speakers too? sorry my questioning is a bit of a mess.. thank for you for any input

Oh and I'd say my budget for the whole thing is ideally about $200 but I could go as high as $300 if it's a big difference. Oh yeah and I'm just curious how much sound proofing would cost because I might just take off the door panels and shove some in there and you know try to make it so I can play loud music without disturbing others.

1. Sound proofing is very expensive, not worth the money unless you're spending 4 digits on a stereo.
2. Replacing the factory speaker WILL make the stereo sound BETTER. It will NOT make your car sound like a concert or piss off the neighbors.
3. Your stereo will not get LOUDER unless you replace the head unit and/or add a 4-channel amplifier (to run the cabin speakers)
4. Mid-range speakers are NOT bass speakers! If you want BASS, buy a subwoofer+amp combo.
4a. Correctly wiring a subwoofer+amp can be quite a project if you're keeping the factory head unit and have never done it before.
5. No you certainly do not need to replace the alternator/battery unless one of them is already bad.

For better sound: Replace the factory speakers with something nicer (doesn't even matter which ones you buy TBH as long as you spend $50/pair or more on them).
For extra bass: Purchase and install a subwoofer + sub amplifier.

I did a similar iso for someone.
I found cheap but decent precision power speakers. I was able to get all 4 speakers for 72$
as for an amp & sub i wouldn't mess with anything unless you can atleast spend 200+ amp 40-50+ on wire 100+ on sub
As for sound proofing. Do it now if your ever gonna do it and save for the sub. If you can isolate your rattles you can be thrifty and tighten bolts and patch dampen stuff like license plate, rear decking ect.
If your gonna do a system my advise is read, read and more read then save.
Otherwise you will end up like most of us and have an ever evolving car. Ie. I just made fiberglass panels for my doors that originally held one speaker, now the door has been molded to hold a 6" driver a 4" driver a horn tweeter a super bullet and soft dome tweeter. The imaging is intense if you close your eyes
