So I finally got a car worth upgrading the sound system in... I don't want anything that'll shake my house while I'm down the street but I do listen to a lot of heavy metal & dubstep so I'd like to add some subs to my car as the stock speakers sound fairly decent. Talking to a guy at a local shop he said 10's would give me deeper bass but 8's would be better for metal. Unfortunately, he didn't have any set up so I could hear the difference... What would y'all recommend? Also, with my limited knowledge on the subject... Would having two sound bad with heavy metal? (Not sure if double bass rolls would reverb into eachother or not)

Also, I've been thinking about doing it myself but I've never wired anything before... Anyone have a site that can give me a quick 101 on sub/amp installation in a hybrid? (Honda CR-Z)

You would be fine with two 8's or two 10's. The 10's will be more cost effective to get a decent amount of bass out of but they will take up more space.

I have two 10's in nice ported box in the trunk and it sounds great listening to very demanding double bass tracks but also performs well with all out bass lines in rap songs, etc.

I also listen to alot of rock and I am very happy with how it sounds.

As far as install it is all very basic the only trouble can be pulling panels, etc. off and getting them back together without messing them up.

Post up some more info like the type of car, your budget, how much space you are willing to give up etc. etc. and I am sure we can point you in the right direction.

Actually going to have to put this on hold for a few months... Just got a call from debt collections, aparently my ex went into my old apartment and wrecked it after I left and they want $3,000 for repairs =/ Kinda blows my budget for a while lol. But, I still plan on doing this, so I guess that gives me time to do research.

Car is a 2011 Honda CR-Z.

Budget isn't really an issue. I don't mind spending $3-4k if the results are really worth it but I would prefer to keep it around $500-1000. Like I said, not looking for something to shake the block but I definitely need some more bass.

Space... I would like for whatever is installed to fit back there and still be able to pull the cover over to avoid theft

Also, I've been reading and wouldn't a closed enclosure be better for less reverb versus a ported one? Just making sure I read everything right lol

Two 10s will be just fine. Sealed box sounds better for rock and such but ported is louder for rap music (generally speaking).

You should be able to spend 500 or less for two subs, amp and all the parts no problem.
Jump your budget up to $2500 and you could have a full system with a nice H/U, two amps, eight speakers and everything professionally installed.
That's about what I'd charge at the shop I work at anyway.. Maybe less for lower quality equipment.
