He has a 1999 S10 pickup, and his current speakers sound as if they are headphones inside a tin can.
He has a non-stock headunit, but it's a piece of junk, he's a tad bit poor at the moment, so I was hoping we could get away with just speakers for now.
His headunit (I believe) only has a single set of RCA inputs, so I'm not sure about how to approach running multiple speakers with this headunit. Use the existing speaker wire setup?
I have no idea how the stock speakers connect to a headunit.
I have a 1996 S10 Blazer, and I can't quite recall how the speakers were setup in it, but I ran my own speaker wire and an amp so I didn't have to worry about the stock speaker connections.

He would like to spend $100-150, $200 at the very most, but would like to keep it under $150 if possible.

Help is greatly appreciate, thank you in advance.

idk i guess car audio is more of a summer thing lol.

It's okay lol, single cab.
I think he pretty much just wants door speakers, but I don't know what all speakers the truck has.
I just know that it sounds like headphones in a tin can and I'm sick of hearing it lol.

unhook the dash speakers. personally i wouldn't replace them either way since they are so prone to becoming damaged by sunlight/crumbs/spills etc

should be fine with that setup. get the free install gear(minus the antenna adapter) to keep as back ups in case he damages something when replacing the head unit.

How do I disconnect the dash speakers?
I tried Googling it but received poor results.

ignore it. i have a 2001 s10 sitting outside with 6.5s in it.

sonics fit guide sayd 6.75s which would probably fit but so do 6.5s so its irrelevant.

the new wiring harness will come with a wire diagram that tells you which wires go to the door speakers. basically just unhook the other speaker wires aside from that and tape them off.
