basically if you are working with very limited space you go with sealed.

aside from that a properly tuned ported enclosure is the best all around option if you want to get the most out of your subwoofer(s).

Generally speaking ported is louder and sealed sounds better.

People tend to go Sealed for more SQ or Sound Quality oriented setups. Where as a ported sub would be used to get the most sound out of the speaker it will be within a limited acoustical range depending on what your port is tuned to. There are some speakers that can be tuned lower to have a nice ported sound but many people dont tune them properly and just created noise. What subwoofer is it for is the most important question.

I have had both ported and sealed boxes with a ported box they hit harder and are louder, with sealed boxes sound better
If your looking for a competition system go ported if not it don't really matter but I like ported

with a sealed box you will get more of a punch with your subs/ or sub. i have had both as well but i like sealed because of the music i like to listen too. mainly rock. but if you listen to songs that have a lot of low bass ported would be the way to go.
