So maybe 2-3 weeks ago, I was driving around, and my music stopped playing. I figured my aux cord was messed up, bought a new one, and the problem was the same.
It turned out the jack had more or less came loose, and wasn't making connection inside the HU. At the time I didn't have money to spend because I was going on vacation with my family,
and managed to make it work by pinning the jack with a toothpick. Now I'm back and it's driving me crazy because the toothpick trick stopped working (idk why), and I work at Jimmy John's as a delivery driver, and the radio sucks after awhile.

I have a pioneer head unit, I can get the exact model and whatnot if needed.

Has anyone ever taken one of these apart? How would I go about fixing it? Would I be better off with just buying a new one?

There's an audio shop not too far away that I could ask.. but when my amp was messed up ( a connection on the inside of it ), he told me to buy a new one because it's INCREDIBLY DIFFCULT to fix.. which my dad I and fixed in about 5 minutes.
So with that being said, I'd rather see what you guys have to say about the situation first.

just a simple solder job most likely. it's less complicated than that amp fix since you know exactly whats come undone.

what head unit model? i ask because i'd like to see if its worth fixing at all because if its fairly old you might be better off just spending ~85 on one that will have better tech and stuff.

It's only about a year old, and I figured if I go to fix it and it's /fucked then I'd buy a new one and just use the radio until it's fixed.

Any good headunit's you can recommend , in case something breaks? Right now I'm using 50x4 , would an upgrade to 52x4 or 54x4 be a noticeable difference?
My friend has a 52x4 and it sounds a lot cleaner/louder , but i didn't really think the extra 2 would make that big of a difference.

those are peak ratings which are 99% useless. rms watts are the useful number.

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_60594_Pioneer-DEH-X3500UI.html this is a good one for the money. it has everything you need but not some of the stuff you want.

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_64092_Pioneer-DEH-X7500S.html this one if you want something a little more well rounded. 4 volt pre-amps, better display, rear usb for cleaner look, better interface and settings.

I know peak is pointless, especially because headunits only actually putout like 13W rms right? So should I just not pay attention to the 52x4?
First time I've had to look at upgrading/fixing a headunit so I'm looking for some insight :P

e:

The second one looks nice as fuck.. but outta my price range right now and they only have 2 left, lol.
Might get the first one if things turn out bad, not expecting them to, but it's been acting a little funky lately.

ya just ignore those 50 and 52x4 stuff.

14-22rms watts X4 is generally what you get from a head unit.

kenwood and pioneer are the only two brands i even look at anymore. if you can find brands like alpine on sale for the right price they are okay but generally way too expensive price tag for what they offer.

Thanks! I'm gonna look for one that has a rear aux jack on that site when I get home.
