I just re-coned two of my Sa-12's after months of no bass. I really want to keep these in good condition for as long as I can, the audio shops around here are amateur at best and so I have some questions. They don't even know about upgrading the stock electrical. The "big three"

Current set up.
2x SA-12's running at 1 ohm.
Hifonics Brutus BRZ 1200.1d

I've only had them in for 2 days now so maybe they are still loosening up? But they're getting awful hot, but the weather is hotter then Hades nut sack also so that doesn't help.

1) Is it okay to be using SLA? Audio shops around here said it causes clipped signals.

2) Is it okay to be using the "Loud" feature? I've heard that also causes clipped signals.

3) When a professional audio store tunes someones amp/head unit, is it tuned for optimum output with as little clipping/distortion as possible? My brother got his done and after being charged quite a bit, his system was quieter. He turned the settings he liked back on so it was loud and 3 years later his older Rockford Fogate P3's (500 rms) are still destroying my ears in his SUV.

Bass boost no. Loudness no. Slant no.

2 days isn't very long. Real subs may take weeks or months to fully break in (like some DD 9500s).
Your brother paid to have his system tuned? Seems like a waste of money..

1. Turn gain on amp to zero, set all levels on the H/U to zero.
2. Start the car and turn up the stereo to the loudest you normally listen to it (min'e like 22 or 23).
3. Set your Filters to where you like them (generally subsonic is 15ish and LPF is 70-120).
4. Turn up the gain on the amp until it doesn't get any louder, then turn it back down just a pinch.
- if you're turning the gain up and the subs are not getting louder, that's clipping and may cause harm to your equipment.

PS. Remember not to play your subs with the trunk open, they need the back pressure from a sealed trunk or they may excurt too much causing damage.

He wanted his system professionally installed. He does excellent work and did a professional job on my car but hey, it's his money. They tuned it for free and was quieter after.

If I turned off all those settings I honestly think it was sound less than mediocre. I mean I've heard of people reaching high decibels with one SA-12.. maybe I need to adjust my amp.

Gotcha, I understand wanting it installed by the pros.

It's your stereo, go make it sound how YOU want it to sound. I'm just making suggestions based on what I've learned.

What kind of car, what kind of enclosure?

this :)

im new to this and asked alot in here + audio store but i did all the install and really happy about the sound but im like every1 else... need better and better :)

1999 Mitsubishi Galant. And some shitty prefab ported box. I believe each sub is getting 1.3 cubic feet. That is actually my next goal, I'm talking to a woodworker and we're going to customize one that fits in my trunk. Yet will be at least 2 cubic feet which sub. The opening of my trunk doesn't allow a big box so its going to have to be slightly weird lol

1.3 is way too small for those subs. I have a similar sub in a 2.25'cu enclosure (slot ported).
That's why your shit isn't loud homie, you need a huge ported box with the subs and port firing the same direction.
