My SA-12 shit out on me a few days ago. At work I took my baby out of the enclosure and saw this... Any idea what this part is called? Lead tinsel? Think I could solder it back together? Or am I SOL and need to buy a reconing kit.

sundown has a pretty good warranty. call them up and tell them because this looks like a manufacturing mistake to me.

What if I got them from amazon like a year ago or directly Sundown, I don't think I have proof of purchase or anything. The coil inside looks brand new, never abused, or over powered.

Yeah if you contact them @ sundown audio he generally will help you out. Only problem is shipping costs to get it back to him and yourself.

What kind of power you putting to this?

As for over a year ago, maybe a re-cone kit with new spiders and leads.

I have two SA-12s. 600 RMS on each. Does the re-cone kit come with new spiders and leads? Anyone have experience doing a re-cone kit on this sub?

Try watching that.

600 each is okay, they can easily handle more so that is weird.

Absolutely. I ran 2500W to 1 SA-15 lol...
It used to put the amp into protect @ like 18 volume, but under that was fine.

EDIT: As a matter of fact im running over 3,000W RMS to each ZV1 18 i have, They rated for 1250W RMS each...
They @ .5 ohm and laugh @ the power lol

most likely sundown would probably be more than happy to repair this. i've never heard of their leads breaking so they should be pretty interested in finding out if it was a manufacturing or material problem.

I'll give them a call again tomorrow. I'm just worried because I dont have the original receipt from amazon. I've moved twice since then and lost a lot of paper work.
