Behind a bench seat in a single cab truck... Will they sound horrible in such a small box in a small space?

you will need a angled box and a shallow mount sub and depends on the size

I have an old Chevy and there is enough room to put one under the seat. Or I could slide the seat forward a little and fit a slim box back there.
To answer your question; they will sound fine if you get the right subs for the box.

Before we even think about choosing subs, we have to figure out what you're going to do for an enclosure.

Yeah I'm not really too knowledgeable when it comes to this stuff, so I'd go with a prebuilt box and subs of your guys recommendation. The truck is a 97 f150 single cab. Price isn't really an issue but id like to keep it to somewhere in the middle of cheap and top of the line.

can you get general measurements for us? like top/bottom depths where the box will be sitting would be necessary before i can find a box that will fit.

i wouldn't ever do that without a bed cover and reinforcing the back of the cab. damn cab is flimsy enough without removing that much metal lol.

2 in each door and 4 on the floorbehind the seat

Realistically I would be willing to bet that two of the 5" model in each would door be pretty hardcoe
