I know pattycake and avoid did but i dont know who else is here still that does.


my engine light is on and they cant find anything wrong with it (however i DO have a gas leak)

my main question IS, is there a way to get the light off long enough for my inspection tomorrow?


i dont think its related to the gas leak cause thats new but the lights been on for about 7 months but i could be wrong so im getting the leak taken care of.

if your check engine light is on your go get it code scanned...thats the point of the check engine light. just making guesses at the problem on a car equipped with obdII sensors is stupid.

unhook your battery for a few minutes and it should clear the check engine light for a while. test it out now to see how long you can expect it to stay off.

op what car do you have?

if they do the obdII scan as part of the check they can tell if it hasnt had enough miles on it since it was reset and will fail you so only sure fire way to pass is to get the code/codes pulled and fix the problems

Exactly. Those computers are Ade to tell the mechanic everything. I had to drive 50ish miles for the computer in my gmc Sonoma to pop a code

code says its a injector problem (either failure or just needs cleaning) or bad wiring. took it in after paying to have a full system clean. they checked it all. nothings wrong its still on. you think i didnt try that? hence my asking HERE of all places just how to turn the damned thing off.

Right before you go for inspection you could disconnect the battery for a second and then reconnect it. I did this before in a different state. Idk if the machines here will detect the reset though.

Disconnect negative battery terminal for 20min.
Connect terminal and time how long before light comes on

If its an injector problem it most likely wont pass emissions testing anyways. Does it run ok?
