I just finished installing a system in my hatchback car, and I'm wondering if you have any input as to how I would make it better. The biggest flaw is the car speakers, they sound like crap when you crank it up. This is what I have..

HU- Pioneer deh-p4700mp (50x4w 22rms)
Front- Walmart Sony Xplod 4 way 5 1/4" (x2, claim 160w but the tweeter sounds like crap at high volume)
Rear- 6 1/2" speakers in a ported box, chinese, unknown stats, old, getting ready to sell.
Amp-1000w Sony from wally world, 480ish rms bridged
Wires- 6ga power/ground Monster cables and rcas, random 18ga speakerwire
Sub- 12" DVC rockford fosgate prime r2d4(IIRC) 250w(500rms)
Box is a sealed unit from Walmart, not sure of the dimensions but it sounds decent so far.



What I want to do is make the bass louder, I think it can handle more bass, but when the volume goes up the bad noises from the car speakers gets louder. I was debating installing a bass knob, but also I was thinking if I just unhook the rear speakers and plug both the rcas into rear outputs at the HU, I could set the sound to the rear and that would take juice from the front speakers and put it to the sub?

I've never used a bass knob, or a capacitor, my lights dim so I might get one, and a bigger alternator(got one gotta install it.)

If I can I want to get some 2 way rockford 6 1/2" speakers and 6x9's to replace the stock speakers in a month or two..tax time.. and I've seriously been considering another 12 with a matching prime mono block amp, but for now is there anything I can do to make this any better?

I also would like to figure out how my hertz but I don't understand how to just yet, I've only googled it for a minute and they said you need a cd that plays tunes? I'm familiar with how to use a multimeter.

that sub is 250rms watts not 500 rms watts.

how exactly is the subwoofer wired right now? if you don't know how ohms work here is a breakdown of wiring options: http://knowledge.sonicelectronix.com/tools/subwoofer-wiring/

now...aside from the problem that its probably wired incorrectly the entire setup is pretty much needing replaced if you are wanting it to actually be somewhat loud.

It's dual voice coil, I was told that makes it a 500w sub, 250 for each coil.

IIRC, its wired for a 8 ohm load, but the gain knob is set at .05

I have 2 positive and 2 negative terminals on the sub itself, a air is going from the negative on one side to the positive on the other, and its bridged on the amp. I lost the papers for all this a long time ago, but that was how I had it wired and after trial and error it sounded best. If I had a second dvc sub it could be properly wired for a .05 ohm load... That has nothing to do with hertz, which is what I was hoping you (guys, not trolls) could help me figure out.

Do you not think after wasting a couple hundred dollars for Walmart junk I haven't learned a lesson? When I get some extra money most of it will be replaced, but until then.. alot of this was given to me, head unit, 6 1/2's, wiring was out of a Nissan in a JY(1.99$), ...just trying to make due.

ya...8 ohms isn't going to do you any favors. you aren't getting hardly any power out of that amp because its sitting at an 8 ohm load.

get a mono amp then you can at least get down to 2 ohms.

What do you have in your car?

nothing because i don't plan on doing another install for myself until i find something to do a major build with.

whats so strange about that? im in the same boat as him... after having systems for almost a decade im content not spending any money on audio until im ready. quite frankly its completely irrelevant...

also going to point out some things since i forgot to address them.

250rms watts is not per voice coil its combined wattage for both of them.

monoblock amplifiers are for subwoofers. 2 channel and 4 channel amps are for mids/highs mostly.

your system is at a dead end...replacement is really the only option for everything but the subwoofer. if you are wanting lots of bass however that subwoofer will never be able to meet that demand because its a low budget sub with an annoying power range.

a 250rms@2ohm amp is going to cost about the same as a 600rms@2ohm amp because so few mono amps cater to that low power range.
