So I just got a car, 1991 toyota camry. Yeah, nothing special. But it's the first car I bought with my own money and should last me.
Anyways.
The speakers in it are really bad.
Not what I want. Being a typical teenager, and kindof a dick, I want to blast my music.
What are good speakers that I can search for on craigslist like under $200? Like whats the deal with the Watts and everything?
I lived with my mom all my life and am moving with my dad soon, so I know nothing about cars.

Can the Toyota Camry run any type of speakers? How do I make it work? Do I just put them in and do simple wiring?
Do I need a special type of radio?
I have a crappy radio, what should i look for?
I want to get an ipod, and plug it into my stereo, music player w.e its called.

Can like.. Someone not troll me, or call me dumb.. I know you will think I am. I never really looked into this stuff at all.

I just want to put my illegal music on an i-pod that I get off craigslist and want it to sound good on my semi-decent to nice speakers that I get on craigslist that will work in my 1991 Toyota Camry.

1. Not always. Max watts and RMS watts are totally different. The cheap speakers you see at walmart are listed in max watts..their RMS watts (what really matters) is usually half..or less...what they advertise as max watts.
Basically..don't pay attention to max power, figure out the RMS watts.

2. Don't. They will probably be driven too hard..blown, old..or just plain cheap..come in a box not made for them..and so on.

3. Dunno..hate ipods. Also, mp3s are small files for a reason..the high and low end is usually cut off the songs..they won't sound anywhere near as good as an actual CD on a loud system.

4. Obviously. But, you can always buy FM radio adapters so you can play the ipod through your FM radio..but this will just make the sound quality even worse.

5. What type of car you have has no bearing on what kind of speakers you have..it all depends on your head unit (cd player) and how strong the power system is in your car..battery..alternator.

6. Depends..are you looking for subwoofers too? These you will need an amp for..any louder speaker you want will require an amp..that will require running new power cables, putting in-line fuses in, possibly drilling new holes in your car, lining that hole with rubber to avoid stripping the wire..making sure you have the correct wiring to get the correct ohm load on the speakers so you don't damage your head unit, speakers, and amp.

7. Obviously depends on the speakers, head unit, and the amp.


Figure out what you want..subwoofers and high quality speakers in the doors of your car too..or just a smaller upgrade to your stock system. Then, use google..find a car audio website with a forum and ask lots of questions.

Also..if you want a good system..it costs money. If you buy anything from walmart or sears or anywhere like that, it is usually overpriced and ****.

couple things that i think were misinterpreted.

while you can use ANY speaker(with modification) your interior speakers must fit certain size criteria if you plan on using stock speaker holes.

their points about mp3s is somewhat true but you dont have to use a cd since a flash drive is better for this. mp3 format songs are generally fine for daily use though since you probably wont notice the difference.
