after installing a 1k watt amp.. and a 12 inch sub on friday.. everything worked fine.. last night.. "SATURDAY" around 10 pm.. my dashboard lights went out while i was driving. Music wasn't incredibly loud..now there was a fuse under the hood for my car for a system a couple years ago before i owned the car. I took it out, because i was told that since i am running a 1k watt amp and only 12 inch sub.. that the fuse isn't really necessary.

and no it's not because i accidently hit my dimmer switch off... my seat belt, service engine, security light pop on. and even my odometer. Just my lights that light up my gauges wont come on.

whats my mistake here?

It sounds to me that you should take this to a professional to diagnose. No offense but you don't sound very knowledgable. But if you want to attempt it. Start by checking fuses at the fuse box either in the cab or under the hood. Your system, if installed correctly, should have no effect on your dash lights. Unless the remote wire was tied into that circuit. The easiest thing would be to replace the fuse that blew. But your going to want to find out why it blew so it doesn't happen again

it's honestly would be hard to install a amp.. and a sub incorrectly.. remote blue wire.. from cd player to REM on amp. ground to metal on car... power to battery. I was thinking it may be a dimmer switch

i am sure it's a simple fix such as a short or something.

I think you would be surprised how some people can screw it up...especially if they don't have an aftermarket radio with a blue/white wire labeled as remote output. Dimmer switch would make sense...but what caused it?

that i am not sure of.. the only thing i can think of is.. maybe somehow the ground wire screw may have nicked something when it was put in. The car originally had subs in it previously before i had it. So i just hooked up the wires and it worked. The remote wire in the wiring harness even said.. REMOTE WIRE! labeled in blue lol.. The part that puzzles me though.. is that why did it take over 5 hours of use, for it to actually cause the problem.

Ground should be screwed to bare metal and should be away from any wiring so idk how it would have knicked a wire. What the problem could be (and I've seen in the past) behind the after market radio, is there any orange wires (orange, orange/white, orange/black) that are exposed and not properly cappe off. For example the solid orange wire off the back of the radio/or harness is the illumination wire, if that grounds out it would blow the fuse an possibly the fuse for dash lights

that could be.. I will have to to check that out!

what if.. since the blue wire. remote wire is now my power source for my radio from my amp.. could it be possible that since the radio is getting two direct power sources.. red wire and blue wire. that it could be overloading the circuit and dumping it on my A5 fuse.. dashboard lights? so cap the original wire before i installed the amp and sub

no the blue is an output not an input, the wire sends 12v when the radio is turned on, it doesnt power the radio.

you have a yellow(constant) and red(accessory) only two "input" power sources. its more than likely one of the orange wires i listed earlier. ive seen that in the past, replace radio. forget to cap the off, turn lights on...bye bye fuse.

okay. i will get more 5a fuses tomorrow and try to pick it apart.. is it possible that since where the ground is at.. has paint on it.. and quite a bit of dust.. that could throw off the ground? to be a bad connection?
