Im looking to get some nice dorm room speakers.

I currently have the Logitech 2.1 Channel Computer Speaker System (Z623).

Its good for a computer system, and is cool. But im looking for something thats good quality , and can shake my floor a bit more
My buddy got a big home theatre system in his, and its good and loudddddd. But its not crisp sound, and clearly meant for other things.

So i have 2 questions:

1) Is it possible to hook up another sub and/or system to my current one.

2) And what type of system or subwoofer should i be looking for if i want something for my dorm room. Ide be using my laptop or phone to play music.(price range 200-800) (im probably gonna buy used, so new value up to 800$)


If u give me some good help, ide be glad to pitch u 150fg+ or whatever fits

dude hook a 3.5mm splitter up to your computer, and you can run anything else off it too then, will have to up the volume a little because that technically splits the output in 1/2 but i would recommend the setup i got, any kind of home amp or surround sound like i got (5 channel input), so if you get 2 or 3 rca to 3.5mm cords about ten bucks at walmart, you can hook your computer, phone, ipod, anything up to it that has a headphone jack. i can hook a range of any sub with 4-16 ohms resistance up to the woofer channel and how many speakers i want to the other channels 8-24 ohms. sounds great, got like 4 speakers and a remote and best thing is you can take that with you when you leave would make a great sound system anywhere.
or you could always get a preset system then you dont gotta worry about speakers, and impedance and some of them even come wireless. but you would need 3.5mm splitter if you wanna use the ones you got with anything else unless you kinda know what youre doing and the new amp you get has an output usually RCA and get a rca to 3.5m female adapter.

My advice would be to go with a good 2 channel set up. A real sub in a dorm rooms is ridiculous because you'd never be able to use it because you'd instantly get reported to the RA every time you did.

Go with 2 good quality bookshelf speakers and a good 2 channel receiver/amp. If you intend to expand it later into a surround system (when you move out of your dorm) then buy a multi channel receiver.

Trust me, anything beyond 2 good bookshelf speakers is overkill in a dorm.

My bedroom set up is two Klipsch RB 61s hooked up to a Pioneer Elite VSX-21TXH. They won't go as low as a sub will, but they still deliver great sound in a small room. You would be amazed at how good a real set of bookshelf speakers sound in a small room.

If this is the direction you'd like to go, I can recommend some bookshelf speakers that I think would fit your budget. My preference was Klipsch, but you need to listen to a bunch of speakers before you know what brand you want to go with, so I would prefer to provide you with options rather than just recommend what I use. What I like may not be what you like.

Otherwise, if I still haven't convinced you that you don't need a sub, then buy a sub from one of these three companies:

Those 3 companies are basically factory direct audio companies that sell their products directly to consumers via their webpages. They make very high quality, reasonably priced audio components specializing in subwoofers. They are by far aways your best bet for high value subs. If you do your research and look through any of the hifi webpages, you'll see that all three companies are heavily recommended by people who are obsessed with this shit. Their subs are often compared to "name brand" subs that are often 2-3x the price.

I would advice against a splitter in this case as it will ultimately kill your multi-channel configuration and sound like shit. Like the above poster said the only way I can figure this to work is with a compatible soundcard that can support multiple channels/surround and/or a receiver.
