I just got a kicker ZX.2500 amplifier

What kind of subs to push?

1x 18?

2x 15?

4x 12?

6x 12?

I'm thinkin 2x 15's LmK for SQ

If you're wanting SQ go with higher end 10's

while it would void the warranty you can run them @1ohm with a good electrical system from what i've read. the issue going below manufacturer specs is you are going to have to clamp it and see its output @1ohm otheriwse you can't buy the proper subwoofer to match it.

I originally wanted to go 1 ohm with an amp like DC or Audio-Q...


But i got a kicker 2500 for $300 bucks and thats just rediculoud O.o

So basically now instead of 2x dual 4 ohm subs... I'll be going 2x dual voice coil 2 ohm subs

Going to be getting 15's

And by getting SQ that means "Circles" instead of Squared

It means better speakers ect but you can be rediculous loud with SQ with 15's is my point and I'm not going to stack 10's i'd rather stack 12's if i'm goint to be doing 4-6-8 number of subs

LmK what kind of subs i should get?

Thinkin i can get C V X's cheap...

I can get an 18" DC XL for $450

I can get 2x 15" lvl 4's (1400 rms each) for slightly more then the 18" at like 500-600 price range

and 12's are even cheaper at around $25-75 each O.o would stack those over 10's all day




Really tempted to go 4x cvx 12's... If i were to go 12's i'd prolly got CVX's or CVR's if really bein cheap



CVX at 12" is pretty rediculous in comparison to a CVR that takes 400 at 12" and only takes 500 at 15" for CVR
when compared to 12" CVX pushing 750 rms at 12" it shows that a 12" CVX can out-perform a 15" CVR



not sure what finished project will be but its pretty much complete

single 18 tune < 30, whats the vehicle?

a couple of things.

you're cars electrical system can't handle a 2500 watt amp.
going straight to a high powered sub and keeping stock mids/highs is a complete waste of time.
you are going to need to install sound deadening material in the car.
multiple subs are almost always worse price/performance ratio than 1 sub. don't run 4 low end subs when you could run 1 high end sub.

and before this turns into a "yes i can run 3000 watts".

amperage=watts/voltage.

2500/14.4=174amps. your car is probably going to need 30amps so that leaves 110amps of output to run 174+ amps of draw. its simply not going to work.

The vehicle is a 2002 Mazda Protege 5


It's a Hatch Back vehicle and the seats drop down if need be to make room for whatever I could possibly imagine for space


With the seats up i have about 7 cubic feet of space to work with and be legal at window line...

Could potentially "Fit" 2x 18" subs but even at sealed still very undersized box so if i went 18" would definately be ported to take advantage of space

Or...

2x 15" subwoofers ... Could get DC lvl 4's at 1400 rms each ... or 2x cheap CVX for prolly $100 each so $200 total vs paying $525 for 2x DC lvl 4's

Basically I'd rather go 4x 15" CVX then 2x DC lvl 4's ... but thats not the point either =/

I "Understand" the whole power ratio thing... Thats why amp will be at 3/4... Always better to have a nicer amp and turn it down a lil to run more effeciant at 80% power ect

The car can push about 1800-2200 rms no problem so its good to have a 2500 rms amplifier either way i paid $300 for amp i think i got a good deal vs $500-600 for Audio Q or DC Audio or Sundown

Really thinkin I should Add a Battery in the back... But dont think its necessary I'm not planning to "Bump" all day long ... Thats why i'm not too woried about power supply and charging it will be fine


LmK thoughts or would like some assistance on making a box for 2x 15 or 1x 18...

Most likely going 2x 15 for now and will upgrade later or add more 15's

Still curious though if "Surface Area is King" wouldnt the 4x cvx be louder? they could take up to 3000 RMS wich is rediculous imo for $250 for a set of 4x
