Older amp on my car is starting to act up. I started by just replacing fuses and didn't help much. Amp turns on and off randomly. Has worked for several years. Any suggestions? Otherwise, the amp I have is 200wx2 channel poweringg a couple of Kenwood subs. Should I stick to one this large, or can I get away with a smaller amp? At work now, but will track post. I can get more info later if told what is needed

are the fuses blowing or what?

is it hot to touch when it goes off?

are your wiring is secured properly?

Wiring to amp is fine. From radio, not sure. Fuses are not blown. Only gets hot if it's been working, but it won't work cold or hot, then halfway across town decides to work.
by hot, I don't mean extreme where I would understand a shutoff. Temperature doesn't seem to play a factor in its working or not

check the power/ground/rcas/remote wire and make sure they are all done.

if its not wiring then its amp damage and you'll probably need to buy another.

figured as much, and I'm not against the idea of buying a new amp. But if I do that, I'm going to add some more speakers to the truck. But that's another topic for later.

when you get time take the cover off the amp and inspect the circuit board for damage. melting/blackspots/pieces that have come loose.

k. amp is fine. wiring on amp was fine. pulled the stereo out to check the wiring and it looked like the wiring harness to the stereo was loose and about nothing i could do to keep it steady. this the stereo or just wiring harness? fuckin thing is old, and I wouldnt mind dropping some cash on a decent stereo, but i just wanna know if that sounds like what it is.

it could be losing connection with the amp.

i'd try getting it to stay in with duct tape and see what happens.

Possibly a remote issue in your harness... or a short somewhere in there. Honestly first thing I would do it replace it and buy a new headunit.
