2001 Chevy Impala 3.6L
Kenwood aftermarket HU
2 - 12 Kicker CVR's w/ custom ported box (made to spec)
600 watt JL Audio amp
ALL stock door/inside speakers - I think this might be my problem??? See below.

My setup: I've had it in this car for about 3 - 3 1/2 years... The subs work great, the amp works great. Doesn't even get remotely warm..

My problem: For about 1 year (maybe almost 1 1/2) the inside speakers quit working from time to time...
The sub still hits to the beat of songs, but I hear no words/treble.
It only does this on certain occassions though... Sometimes it wont play vocals for 3-5 minutes, sometimes it lasts up to a week. But @ other times, I could let it pound for 3-4 hours straight 7 days a week and nothing happens.
All of my inside speakers WORK, but they aren't amazing (obv, since stock)... They don't crakle and they aren't blown.

Sooo.... I'm just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem?
I've heard its because inside speakers are blown and the HU goes into "protect mode", but wouldn't that cut the sub out also?
Do I need to just upgrade my HU?
Do I need to get aftermarket speakers?

Please help :)

Could be a bad speaker out from the headunit, could be loose wiring behind the headunit or speaker(s), could be the speaker itself, could be any number of things its impossible to know until you start taking things apart.

Ughhh of course it could be.. I just rewired it all, so I know there's no loose connections.
I guess I'll start with new in door speakers and work from there. Maybe one is just starting to go :/

I need new ones anyways :)

Appreciate it.
