my main concern is sound quality, my stock radio on my 09 smart car is horrible.

Get the pioneer much better eq, they are good basic headunits and itll sound lots better than stock... but if you plan on upgrading and adding subs and audios later i would spend a little more to get one with better sub control and preout voltage

btw i already have Polk Audio 6501 speakers with a Polk Audio PA330 amp, i really want the JVC stereo cause it looks nicer and it's cheaper.
would this be a bad idea? i'm figuring it'll just be for about 6 months or so, till i get an in-dash dvd player ( i really hate this stock radio right now )

The pioneer is much better you have much more control over your sound. JVC isnt a good brand
