I only recently got into the car audio game - my basic setup is 2 12'' Insignia subs 400W peak 200 RMS (garbage I know, but it's a starter system) powered by an Insignia 600W amp, Kenwood 3-ways on the doors and trunk, 2 chan amp, and a capacitor. Anyways, in the next few years I will be getting rid of my 96 tercel and looking into a newer car (have my eye on the 2012 genesis coupe), and I want to go more intense with the subs. I'm still looking for the right fit (something like type R's, or maybe even type R's), but I know my 600W amp won't do the job powering actually decent 12s. So my question is... what specs am I looking for on an amp? Any recommendations? Money is not a huge issue I'm pretty good at finding things for much less than retail value :)

Get the subs first then get an amp with the ratings to match.

imo i would go amp first, and don't cheap out.. can always upgrade subs later, get the best quality amp you can find

That would be stupid, why buy a really kickass amp that's like 3000 watts and buy cheap ass subs? buy the subs first and then get an amp that matches their specs.
