which is better, single 12 or two 10s?

already got a Sony headunit and 4 sony speakers, all i need is the sub

and is it beneficial to get an amp too?

you have to get an amp its not optional.

how much $ you looking to spend?

subs depend on a lot more than just their size. if everything was equal other than the size the 12s would be a bit louder.

not quite sure lol, maybe $500 for amp/sub?

Id go with 2 10's, I have always used 10's tho.

i only mentioned 1 12 because thats what both my buddies have

my neighbor bought a top of the line system for $2400 installed with 1 12

and $2400 is not a top of the line system. just the head unit i'd want would be $1200-1500.
