1: 2005, Honda, Accord EX-L V6 Coupe w/nav
2: $800 would be absolute max. hopefully under 600
3: High quality clearity with a high level of customize-ability
4: no preference (i have no history of dealing with subs)
5: 14"x12"x14" would be perfect but bigger than that is fine
6: would prefer to keep the oem as my head unit (honda satnav system)
7: electronica, electro, house, transe, dub, ambient, techno
8: yes i have stearing wheel controls

am i doing this right so far?

I want to replace the oem speakers with higher quality.
I would also like to know if the oem head unit is good enough to use as my main audio source. in other words do I need to get a secondary head unit? (there is a cubby below the oem nav that is large enough for a 6-7" screen)
or can I just use some kind of bypass to create better quality sound? (satnav -> aftermarket audio system thing -> speakers)

my eom stuff:

imo i would leave the factory nav in and replace all the speakers and add a 4channel amp.

Just changing the speakers will give you better quality...by amplifying them it will sound even better. Trying to replace your radio would just be a pain plus you'll loose nav.

i think your vehicle has a separate amp, just replace the speakers as everyone else suggests

If you replace the speakers you most likely will have to bypass the factory amps, unless you get some 2ohm infinitys or something to match factory amps impedance. That means amping them and running new wires to the doors, because you wont be able to connect them straight to the radio. You can also find the speaker wires on the kick panels or on the side panels, but you have to have a wiring diagram for your car.
Another option would be to replace the radio and bypass the factory stuff completely. Your choice
