Ok thinknig about a new car - Mazda Mx-5 / Miata Mk1

Can you get amps and subs small enough to fit behind seats or under seats in this type of car? Lighter the better

So what is a basic system? decent head unit 4 speakers 1 amp 1 sub ?

I installed a 8" w7 in the trunk of my friends miata it was a VERY tight fit. there was about 2cm between the thin box and the lid.

what is a w7?

JL Audio 8" W7 woofer, its a good sounding sub. I had it facing upwards in a custom box.

Hmm I think i would rather keep the boot free. Is there such a thing as a mini sub?

8" is about as small as they get, but ive seen 6.5" woofers. In most applications the smaller the cone area the more difficult it is to produce low frequencies

hmm would 6x9 speakers give decent enough bass to justify not getting a sub? especailly in such a small car...

woofers give some bass but not even close to a dedicated subwoofer. without using the trunk you don't have any real options for bass.
