My HU constantly goes into protect mode even when the volume is at like 1...Somedays it will work awesome but other days i cant even turn the fucking thing on...Bad ground perhaps? Thinking about cutting it from the wire harness and just grounding it myself...What do you all think?

sounds like a bad or loose ground... double check it and redo it to a bare metal surface, and if its not that then trace the yellow 12v power cable and see if any exposed/ abraised wire has direct contact with the frame.

Check wires, especially the ground.
