Anyone remember Orion HCCA series? 50 x 2 @ 4 ohm, stable to 1/2 ohm? Or the old RF Power amps... 50.2 that could put out more than 500 watts? Oh the days..

now i'm curious as far as a headunits go

how do you know when your paying for quality sound vs just power

i've not seen any headunits that put out over ~22 rms that arent under 100$

i'm getting the idea that because they can't put good quality into their headunits they jsut push more power into them?

i'm more or less curious about how to tell if your getting a good quality sound from the Headunit (before you buy it)
and if your better off buying a headunit you like, and adding an 4-channel amp on to i later on

signal to noise ratio is a good way. the lower the dB the more background noise the head unit sends out your speakers.

a brand like dual will have 70dB and a good brand will have 90+ which lets you know they are a lot more clear as far as sound quality goes.

mine is up to 110 dB Signal-to-Noise Ratio and 93 Dynamic Range

ok, now i'm trying to construct an actual box for a p3 10" sub to fit in my truck, only thing is i'm trying to build the box with more or less a brace, i know the dimensions, but i'm still having problems, would anyone care to help?

honestly budgeting for this (college money)
still need a wiring kit, alternator, and new battery
only the amps and sub are 100% what im getting, RCA's, battery terminal, and wire splitter aren't

A true system should have an outboard amplifier for all component speakers... I know people run fronts and backs off their decks all the time but you're sharing this tiny tiny power coil in the unit over all channels, and also causing more heat inside the unit. Even an external 25w x 2 amp would be better than any 50 w per channel deck that I've ever seen.

e: underpowering speakers is always worse than overpowering them. You can always turn the gain or volume down...
