what ohm are you running the subs @?

that amp is too big for those subs.

the most you should be running to those subs is 1500 @ 1 ohm, and at that I suggest a 2 farad cap, not a 12. i wanna say the basic rule is 1 farad per 1000 RMS watts. so <1000 = 1 farad, >1000-<2000 = 2 farad.

Running at 1ohm to both, 1500rms each = 3000rms total. (got it runnign at 2k til i get my cap)
I did alot of research and they say .5 farad per 500w, so correct 1 farad per 1000wat, so i should get a 3 but i also have a 1000w alpine powering my
in car speakers, so thats a total of 4k watts/rms + a bit over for peaking, which is say 5k... i got myself a 5 farad cap on eebay, paid 110$ for it and its
worth almost 300$

I sold my buddy these two JL's and an amp I was runnin in my back seat for a week. I also have 4-gauge power wire in my car.
I installed everything in his car and it works but the amp powers down after a minute (doesn't go into protect, just powers down).
I orignially had this amp in my car with the same 8-gauge he has now and my 12" kenwoods and it worked fine with the amp all the way up, but I had a capacitor as well.

My question is, should I tell him to get a capacitor or bigger power wire?

Get anything that has 1500rms @ 1 ohm

You have dual 4 ohm ATR's, right?

Yeah, the older ones i think, they have the big R on the front, not the small one, and each VC is 4 ohm

I'd look for something with 1500rms @ 1 ohm.

Yea its overpowering them by 250rms each, but they can handle it.

Wire them up parallel so you have 1 ohm.

Thats what I got setup, just a different 1500.1 amp though.

Are you looking online or local?

If local, Rockford has a 1 year (sometimes 2 on some amps) warranty. Online, if you show at OCS (link I posted) it has a 1 year warranty, which isnt Rockford's warranty, but its OnlineCarStereo's.

I'll buy online most likely, because the closest car audio place is about a hour away
