For hooking up a head unit I feel thats completely unnecessary.

The butt connectors are intended to be used in such an application. I would never solder all those wires.

if your use to soldering its much faster and easier than all that crimping work you gotta do.

the only time you have to deal with them again is if you replace your head unit and it works the same..cut them and redo it for the new head unit.

to me i prefer to solder because its easier and more reliable to me...however i completely understand going with butt connectors to i just don't trust them as much so i don't use them.

but when it comes to wiring a head unit and saving time... just buy the proper wire harness adapter..





most head units these days have aux inputs

aux and/or usb

if you have the aux wired up you can hook any device up to your system that has a headphone jack (which is very convenient). ive used my laptop/mp3 player in my car countless times. And.. to be honest.. letting your phone be a factor on a head unit purchase is pretty foolish.

750$ isnt just steep its damn near murder... you should try doing it yourself. it may seem/look a little discouraging but i assure you it really isn't very complicated

We have already established that a wiring harness is preferred, but there wasn't one for this car.

And even with an adapter you still need to connect the wires..

you're going to need to decide if you want to be able to play dvds while driving. dvd capable head units usually have a safety feature that requires the parking brake to be engaged.

to bypass this you'll run the safety wire directly to the parking brake wire.

A relay which will do it for you :), just make sure its compatible with that headunit or find one that is.

that is a 88 and up GM motors to 16 prong pioneer direct connect harness made by schoche.. thats what i was referring to

i have used these direct connect harnesses on all the vehicles i have owned except for the few that needed to be wired by hand... cheap.. fast easy and have never failed me. but, obviously ive been somewhat fortunate with my vehicles/head unit selections to have the direct connect harnesses available for almost all the vehicles/HU's combos i've had.

thats all i was trying to say.. but as i read in previous posts it seems this, unfortunately, isnt an option for OP..

also.. im not sure whats going on with your phone situation but.. if you install a 3.5mm aux jack in the car you can plug in mp3 players/ laptops etc and play music through that... so..
Doesn't look like there is a aux input in the front of the head unit you chose so if its in the back of the unit it might be a good idea to hook one up during install.. If you get the right male to female aux cord you can install in a way that is aesthetically pleasing..


that cable on the left is what im referring to( kind of.. its a little short lol.. but also the female end is just a standard end.. not the kind that can be secured into the trim of a vehicle).. you plug the male end into the input jack in the back of your HU then run the female end to where you desire in your car
there are specific cables made for vehicles where the female end is designed to be secured to where you want.. designs that are similar to switches where all you do is drill a hole.. run the female end to the hole and throw a threaded nut-like-deal over it and it stays secured to where you chose to install it.. some are a bit different ive seen some that require screws or something else like double sided tape (lol)

personally.. i prefer to just drill a hole and run that design as you can hide every inch of the cable and thats pretty sexy.

make sure you have the right dash kit ready to go, too.
