most new head units are quite powerful, like 50 watts per channel sometimes higher.
so a higher power deck is going to put more overall wattage to your speakers
also decks by pioneer and kenwood have very amazing EQ's for sound quality.
and as far as speakers go, you really do get what u pay for (id suggest mb quarts for mids and highs)
That's 50 watts per channel
max. RMS varies from 20-25 watts and continuous power is even less.
Decks are never 'high power'...that's what 4 channel amps are for.
Also, the stock systems in Malibus are HORRID...my buddy had one from around the same year...possibly one of the worst stereo's ever.
@OP: JL is pricey...and because they don't make HU's, no one is ever going to see that you're running JL anyways. If you're really into dubstep/hip hop (aka lots of lows) pick up a decent sub in a box (probably ported), a decent HU and some decent speakers. You'll want to replace everything in that car. MB Quart makes killer high/mid components and 2 ways. 2 ways tend to be cheaper...and I don't think there are separate tweeter mounts in a Malibu anyways. Pick up a decent deck from Kenwood/Pioneer.
These guys will have some good amp/sub advice. I don't pay too much attention to budget subs/amps...but I would avoid Sony or Alpine.
