both of you guys have good points woofers advice is more along the lines of what you would do if you had unlimited money.. your advice is more inbline with real world situations.. ive had setups like yours and ive had setups like his.. both of which worked fine.. maybe some lights dimming and a few clipped signals nothing major though... the key is buying good shit to start with

What are you talking about? He doesnt have a system that alone shows I know more about what I'm saying I actually did an install... I work at a shop and do installs almost every other day so how do you figure he knows more than me? Half the things he says doesnt make sense. I'm arguing hard because he annoys me I cant post without him talking crap or trying to prove me wrong its annoying and yes it pisses me off... Im the one who says just ignore me and he keeps acting like a child, and you egging him on and being a prick isnt helping expect to get treated how you tread people.

and Solder is slightly better than butt connectors but not worth the extra time/money to do and in the end boats should not use solder its a known fact that a marine setup should never have soldered connections. Also dont use solder in door panels, only good solder and shrink tubing works well and that costs 10x more than butt connectors, sure if you're doing a home install on ur buddys car who cares about $5 more or an extra 50 minutes? Not in a shop all that shit adds up.

I honestly think solder and connectors are a waste of time.. electrical tape or shrink wrap works fine... or both. I change shit up alot but thats not the point.. the only reason shops solder/use connectors is to charge more money and make you think its hooked up right.. if you connect all the wires together correctly and cover them where they dont toch anything then your perfectly fine.. I installed a cd player in a s10 when I bought it new 10 years ago and used electrical tape... guess what... still works fine..

I mean I hear your thought and I agree but I wouldnt necissarily use electrical tape >.< but yeah butt connectors and tape are fine.

I would solder for car starter we always do if you fuck up a diode you could kill the whole system costings 1000's... But honestly good Shrink Wrap and Good Solder costs way more than connectors man and if they really cost more that should tell you that they are probably better. As far as taking longer it does because instead of just stripping crimping you had to strip, put tube on, head up solder gun, solder each connection, shrink wrap. That takes literally twice as long maybe longer and you have to do that to each wire in the harness.

A roll even without doing starters won't last us nearly a month and definatly not during remote start season I dont think you understand we do 2-3 installs a day double that in the winter for starters. You can think what you want but a good solder job one that would be better than butt connectors costs more and takes longer. Heat Shrink and solder vary a lot in price for the good shit. Also radio shack sells garbage solder/shrink tube we order ours from special companies that provide bulk. We just dont need to use it on harnesses its the only time we dont use it basically and in door panels. I didnt think it was a big deal because its never made a difference takes less time for us and works better.

Just dumb to be a dick about solder and judge a shop on it when it doesnt even really matter. But I will agree that starters should be soldered.

I just think this is silly were here to help not once have I posted gloating or claiming to be #1 we all learn new shit everyday we all have things that we know that others might not thats why its nice to have a forum like this but the elitist pompus know it all asshole shit has to go. Theres 2 ways to do everything one is the cheap smart way that saves you money and gives you good results and the others spending top dollar for the most effiicicent and loudest system you can get it depends on the buyer and what they prefer.

I like my methods because they have been tested I work in a shop I can prove anything I claim I can provide pictures of my work I can build boxes and install run anything 12v I am an asset whether people like it or not but if I'm going to be treated like shit for providing my help I'll just be a bastard back and slam on people who deserve it.
