my buddy painted his L7s and they look great.. he just roughed the cones up with fine grit sand paper then sprayed it with car paint with a air brush then clear coated them.. looks great and hes had em for over 2 years.. no chips no fade or peel

l7s sound like shit to begin with so that's not really a good example.

with a sub that actually have sound quality the paint can't screw up the sub fairly easily. subwoofer cones are pretty much made with ideal specifications so when you mess up that balance you are asking for trouble.

lol I didnt say they were awesome.. all I said was they looked good.. and if you paint them and not put a ton of paint on it should be fine... un like plastic dip.. wbich weighs way more and will crack and look like shit with the movement of the sub and the drastic temps it will encounter inside your car

my point was when i said "ruin the subs" i didn't mean aesthetically.

your second part is not a guarantee. not only does paint add weight but it messes with the cones rigidity. neither are good things to screw around with.

plastidip stays flexible so i don't know how you figure it cracks. paint cracks...plasti-dip rips. and yeah the plasti-dip is heavier but its also reversible.

plasti dip remains stable at -30 to 200 F and i really doubt he's going to let his corvettes interior see either of those temperatures.

Talked to a guy I work with and he said the only way to do it is to dye the cone.
Painting it will change the dynamics of the cone, make it sound different and every time he's painted a sub, no matter if it's plastic or paper cone, it sounded like shit afterwards.
Also, the paint will probably crack when the cone moves.
