did you consider a factory change? The 2001 is good if you have the monsoon system. The door speakers are pretty nice too factory, i have made lots of easy bass with factory systems, all for about $100 on the market. plug and play is nice too.

Edit: I also have owned the 2001 jetta, currently drive a 2003 jetta wagon as my daily. 1.8t

yeah but i've blowed up the door speaker
