maybe ill do this and keep th back of the box open then. i thought speakers were supposed to be in a closed box (since subs are and home theatre speakers are in closed boxes)

different designs. since car doors are hollow companies design car speakers to work best in open air spaces.

i see. i got some decent 5" speakers how big or small can i make my box. since you are saying open space is good i imagine i can make it as little or as large as i want as long as i leave the back open.

or would it work if i leave the front open something like this



sorry for badly drawn image i dont have my drawing tablet with me but basically close the back/sides and create four tabs that the speaker will screw using their preexisitng mounting tabs into leaving the rest of the front open.

would that be enough open space? i dont see it needing much

okay spite all the advice about speakers you gave me about brands i couldnt find any at work (i work at a scrap yard so we get cars with stock and after market speakers all the time) so i decided on using these two i pulled out this week.

the red ones are 4" 3-way speakers 1 3/4" deep labeled VR3 rs400 and the grey ones are 5" 2-way 2 1/2" deep labeled freeway fsp-525



anyways my question:

would it work/sound okay if i put one of each speaker in the same box (one red one grey) and ported the box out the back (or sides) and run 32w of amped signal to each speaker (making 1x 32w amp for each speaker) or should i just use the two red ones in their own boxes and scrap the grey ones.

im not sure how they would sound together in the same box. (1 red 1 grey) if anyone has any info about 2 speakers of different type in same box let me know. id think because they are of different sizes that it wouldnt produce good sound.

Most people these days use baffles, including me.

as for box porting would it sound different if i made a side or rear port rather then a front facing port?
