that .wav's > mp3's/ipods

Well there is no doubt that .wav are much better quality because they are lossless audio codecs.
Lossless means they are not compressed into a format that lowers size and quality.
Also FLAC can be even better, I just didn't think mp3 would lower it to a noticeable degree but after it was mentioned by subwoofer, I researched it and he was right.

if you listen mostly to rap you probably won't notice it much because rap is pretty basic as far as music goes. you can get copies of the USACI sound quality competition cd and find some mp3 versions and then listen to each and its pretty obvious.

aside from losing quality from compression you have to worry about the codec they use on top of that. mp3 is convenient but thats about it.

Yea i can notice even slight differences in quality which is good and bad i suppose.

I have another question.

Will the head unit i ordered be able to play mostly all formats?

Fuck.. i just realized when i put all my music i dl'd onto my ipod it converted it to mp3
even in the original file ..

Is there a way to reverse this?

no. once its compressed the data is destroyed so there isn't anything to fill the blanks back in with.

Because im under the impression this is the highest possible audio codec

i'd hold off until you try it using the usb over aux. chances are it will be fine if you listen to rap/hiphop mostly. the thumb drive is still useful either way because then you don't have to keep your phone hooked to your head unit.
