with an amp the difference would be a lot. underpowering them keeps them from working properly.

components allow you to put the tweeter where its most effective and the midrange gets more surface area. components are better overall.

yeah i read on wiki real quick to get the difference between coaxial and component hehe
well, i'll have to get the polk ones and just under power them for now and get an amp in future. i'm sure i won't mess them up from underpowering them for a while.
plenty of peeps get speakers without an amp B) i'm just gonna have to for now hehe

its all about the power ratings. i assume you have an aftermarket head unit and 22 rms watts per channel is average for them.

those speakers need 100 watts to work as designed and you are giving them 1/4 of that. that keeps them from sounding right and keeps them from working right as well. you are better off getting just a cheaper lower powered set unless you plan on getting an amp soon.

it's not aftermarket, it's stock from Smart ( smart fortwo is the car ) i would hope that mercadez wouldn't put such a weak head unit in there. i mean, i know it's weak but not THAT weak. who knows

if he doesnt have subs would you even want tweets? At low level tweets always seem a tad over baring for me. Sub /\/\ I think your right as far as the components go. what kind of deck are you running? Most of the subs that you would want are 65-100 rms.

If no after market deck do these http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_44371_Clarion-SRG1622R.html

Push in a few more bucks and you could have these

The speakers for their size have pretty low end range 35 hz for a 6 1/2" is pretty damn good, and the tweets are not "tinny" sounding. I know Sepulturas Roots album sounds awsome on them ^_^
I ran that same Mb quart amp in my sisters car and never had a problem with it. I just installed it under the passenger seat. Power and remote run up the door side, Grounded to one of the seat bolt as they usually sturdy enough to hold a person down so there must be some metal. You may want better rca's to keep that engine whine out, maybe another 10-20 bucks. I took the lazy route wiring the speakers And just ran wiring back up to the deck and tied in there. ( I know, I know , but who has time to wire someone elses doors. Imo its a stupid place for speakers)

My 2003 clk320 had great sound but still had a friggen tape deck cd changer in it and if you opened the center console there was an area for a wired phone lol.
If you do ever upgrade your head unit, it is a nightmare. Damn germans tie everything in to one another and then lights go off at random.

yeah but i already ordered the polk audo DB 6501, gonna mount the tweeters in corners by side mirrors. as for the head unit, i don't know how to find out it's RMS output or anything, it's just the stock stereo/cd head unit that comes with a smart car ( 2009 smart fortwo passion )

i will put up some pictures when it's done, probably in a week or two ( waiting for the shipment ofc )

you know what, scratch that. i take what you say seriourly, so i'll probably just go to bestbuy or somethin and find one for 100$ or under. question is, some are like 4 channel 100watt or w/e but the tweeters aren't gonna use that much wattage i'm guessing... or do the tweeters not need to go on the amp?
any help on picking an amp? i'm not putting a sub in the future, only gonna have this kit from polk audio
