I've personally never liked Punch's. They've never done me good.
I've had 2x 12" Kicker CVX's with a JL Audio amp. Never been more satisified with spending ~500

u prolly never heard punch on a perfect set-up then, i doubt semilar kicker subs will sound nearly as good, and as u can hear around here and alot other places kicker>most others>rockford

ya i was looking at those too..they look like really good speakers and are pretty affordable imo
do u have a ported or sealed box ? the subs i got now are in a sealed box..but im thinkin about getting a sweet ass ported box to put them in

the p3's look pretty nice tho i might get those

i mostly listen to rap music so i need the subs to hit high and low frequencies clearly without distortion
these speakers here dont seen to have much of the range compared to others speakers ive looked at

for example the p3's im currently looking at freq rang is 43-350hz
vs.
the kickers which has a freq range of 25-500hz

i run into this issue atm with the subs i have in my car..it doesnt hit on certain frequencies rather when the sound too high or too low
its weird and it pisses me off idk if its the speakers or the amp or what..

its ported, wich is kinda bad for me since i listen mostly to fast techno beats, but when i listen to rap the lows is epic, the ones with alot lows in i cant hear anything else than that even tho i got p1652-s comp set and 2x jbl gto 6x9's

i would go for an ported when u listen mainly to rap, mines just p2's with 250 rms and old tech's, if u buy the new p3's with 500 rms each u wont regret for sure... and u will need some insane comp sets and amps else u only gonna be hearing bass, if u can afford it go for the t0 or t1, never heard em but i think their pretty sick

i know what u mean, sometimes i listen to some crazy psy techno and some of it just sounds strange or bad compared to my home system, but its only few songs and at max volume

u can prolly find some cheap shit sub with bigger freq range wich will sound like complete crap, i woulndt take kicker over rf cause of that since the rf will give u so much better sound overall. a better brand with bigger range would mb be better

No, I've only heard 3x 12 P1 in a blazer (junk box)
And 2x 12 P2. It was loud, but no quality at all.

CVX's beat real good and have good quality for the price. I got 2x 12" In my 2001 Imapala (750 watt rms) from Mr Tunes, buy one get one. (decent system to start out with)
Yeah, RF does have some of the TOP quality subs made. For SPL and daily bumpin'.

One of the good things about newer cars is that their audio
is somewhat outstanding, reason why: they stopped using paper speakers
They now use a better material, they added tweeters to most cars that sound
like top-notch quality. Also, Most newer cars come with an 8-10 sub that sounds
amazing!

Actually a lot of the statements in this thread are incorrect... First off all installs SQ or SPL involve 90% Install and 10% equipment to get what you want. While I agree Kicker isn't exactly a SQ brand and a lot of their products are overpriced when compared to many "underground" products such as AA, Fi, Sundown etc. but that doesn't mean they're bad or sound bad. I have installed CVX's in a car and ran them off of a ZX2500.1D and not only did it sound good it was one of the loudest installs in the area (competition wise.) I for one would NOT recommend Kicker for an SQ application or a SQL or SPL application due to the price and that's all. Now if we're talking about Solo-Baric subwoofers they have the worst SQ I've ever heard and are not very durable and can't take much over-rated.

Now with all that said DO NOT get Punch or Prime series Rockfords they are over-priced garbage regardless of what anyone says who runs them, they cost more than kicker and perform worse in most applications I have head them in. Rockford has been going down hill lately and the only products I recommend from them are their BD line of amplifiers which are still... overpriced, by a lot. Now as you may know you get what you pay for and a few previous posters had mentioned that if you want SQ you will need to base the WHOLE system around SQ, it's possible to have something called "SQL" which combines SPL and SQ but this is usually a more expensive route. A lot of what you get is going to depend mostly on how big your enclosure can be and IF you're making your own enclosure. If you buy a enclosure from walmart or some pre-fab from an audio store right there you automatically leaped from SQ or SPL into "garbage" sounding territory I've taken setups and just switched out their enclosure with one I built and yielded twice the loudness and a way smoother more linear sound, like I said before it's 90% install and 10% equipment.

Now again with all THAT said you need to determine what you will need and what you really want. If you want to SLAM louder than anyone you need to go with an SPL oriented setup, if you want just a little punch with some nice clean sounds that will hit anything you play you need to build your own box and you need to buy SQ based equipment but you will NOT be as loud as if you were to go straight SPL so you kind of have to decide personally I don't think anyone here is a big enough Audiophile to really need an SQ setup or to know the difference between the two without hearing multiple SQ systems done right.

Anyways all I can do is recommend a good in-between setup based off your budget I would start to learn to avoid companies like: Alpine, Rockford, Kicker, JL, MTX and learn more about companies like: American Bass, Audioque, DC, Ascendant Audio, Sundown Audio, Fi Audio, Stetsom, Digital Designs etc. These companies usually are about the same price range for equipment but sound better and perform better than any kicker, alpine, rockford product out there no matter what your friend thinks who runs 2 L7's and thinks kicker is the SHIT. Now I'm not saying they don't make good equipment and not to buy them I'm just saying people need to expand their views and not be biased based on what "their friend has."

So without further or do here is my recommendation:

Example of a Budget SQL setup below:

AudioQue AQ750.1D (720RMS @ 1 ohm) This amplifier will do 750RMS @ 1 ohm and even more than that because of the components inside, it allows this amplifiers to run MORE than rated similiar to companies like Kicker,Alpine,Rockford... Now the Difference is if you were to compared prices a Kicker ZX750.1D costs about $350-400 on eeeeeeebay and thats CHEAP for that amplifier. This one costs $200... and uses the same Z-board as kicker and even some better components If you looked the specifications for this amplifier you will see it actually does 1000rms @ 1 ohm and not 750 which even the ZX750 only does approx. 900rms. Another interesting thought is that Kickers and Alpines run at 2 ohm as their lowest impedance while companies like DC and Sundown are .25 ohm stable and warrantied as low as .5 ohm which means you can run low impedance and gain more power without spending the extra cash and it also allows for more configurations with your subwoofers so in point variety IS better.

Amplifier: http://www.audioque.com/AQ750-Amplifier_p_46.html

Sundown Audio SA-12 600RMS SEVERELY UNDER-RATED I've ran 2 of these on 3500wrms.Now since you're running a car and not a truck or SUV you're very limited on space, and as I said before when that happens you're limited on enclosure size, most subwoofers have a specific enclosure requirement to get the most out of it, and REMEMBER a bigger enclosure yields more output than a smaller enclosure off the same power, so in your case you would probably want 2 12's or 1 15" or less. in this case I'm going to recommend a single 12" due to your budget and type of vehicle in a box around 1.5ft^3 tuned to about 32-33hz if you want PM me and I will give you a design and cut sheet for that and some tips on building it. If you want to run 1 ohm which I recommend because 1 ohm is normal impedance to run at nowadays you will want a Single Dual 2 ohm voice coil configuration to wire the woofer down to 1 ohm.

Subwoofer: http://www.eebay.com/itm/SA-12D2-SUNDOWN-AUDIO-12-DVC-2-OHM-SA-SUBWOOFER-SUB-/130420415089?pt=Car%5FSubwoofers%5FEnclosures&hash=item1e5da99a71#ht%5F4905wt%5F1110

This will cost you about $400 shipped and leave you enough left over to build a box within your budget. I will be a nice guy and provide designs and cut sheets for boxes if you think you can build one if worst comes worse go to Home Depot buy a 4ft x 8ft sheet of 3/4" MDF and have them cut it for you then have someone else put it together. Regardless it's a VERY EASY thing to do and will make ALL the difference. The thing is you may be thinking why get a 12" Sundown never heard of this stupid brand... Well let me tell you. For the $200 you paid for that 12" you could get say a Kicker CVX 12" right? Well the 12" CVX is good for at most 1000w AT MOST if you know eXACTLY what you're doing and don't overpower things or clip your signal with dirty power. That CVX does not have the motor force, sensitivity or tinsel strength to withstand more than 1000w over prolonged periods... The Sundown SA-12 has woven tinsels so tinsel snap doesnt occur from over excursion, it uses 2 medium progressive spiders to handle XMAX at high ranges for a ton of excursion while not bottoming out, it has an RMS rating of 600 but can take 1500w+ all day, and the sensitivity allows it to get LOUDER of LESS power than the CVX basically saying in the SAME box, on the same amplifier in the same vehicle the 12" SA would get twice as loud and sound twice as clean as a CVX for about $50 less.

and anyone who knows anything about circuitry or amplifier motherboards knows that Coils, Transistors, mosfets etc. make up the amplifiers efficientcy and power rating... Well compare the internals of the AQ750.1D to any mainstream brand and you'll see price/performance wise the AQ is hands down a better deal, now by now means am I saying AQ is the BEST company out but price wise within your budget it's THE BEST amplifier you can get.

I hope this helped and if you have any questions drop me a PM. it took em awhile to type that so sorry for typo's or any sentences that may be confusing I did my best >.<

Also this is COMPLETELY wrong... You can get any type of frequency range on any type of woofer if you tune the box accordingly. The only difference the subwoofer makes in that aspect is motor force, sensitivity, xmax(stiffness) and displacement. Subwoofers run in a frequency range of 20-80hz while mid-range is 70-120 and highs are usually around 120-150hz. Some subwoofers like lows more than others but has nothing to do with what you stated you have to know more about the subwoofers themselves and how they work to deterimine which ones will sound better in a certain frequency range. Honestly what you're noticing right now is probably a very badly tuned box that is too small for your subwoofers or too big with not enough port area and displacement not taken into account. I gaurantee if I designed you a box and you stuck your current subwoofers in that box they would hit lower and have a wider range and probably take more power and be a lot louder. Personally scrap whatever you're running and go for what I suggest and learn to build a box and maybe take some time to read up on a few things. If you want to be loud and clean sounding on a lower budget you need to actually have knowledge on the topic at hand. Another thing is you could have your amplifier tuned completely wrong and have the LPF tuned too high and the SSF tuned too low which will complete cut those frequency ranges also if your headunit doesnt have a good pre-out voltage you will end up with a muddy sounding setup if paired with a cheap amplifier. If you get what I suggested and learn how to tune it and again I can't stress this enough LEARN HOW TO BUILD A BOX you will be VERY happy.
