I drive a 96 Chevy Tahoe and with the last two stereos I have had, when you turn up the sound to a certain point the speakers will stop playing music, but the sub woofers keep playing. any idea how to fix this?

this guy was having the same problem

1.take time to check the color code for the suv it sounds like one of your speaker wires is crossed the sub has a seperate amp so thats y it still has sound let me know it this works ... if u clipped the trucks original harness peel back the black tape the speaker leads r twistes to one another check them one by one turning the volume to where it normaly shuts off

or

2.i had the same problem if you clean the ground terminals from your battery to your chassie it worked for mine

basicly crossed wire or bad connection maybe?

e) if your still cant get it to work, i can keep looking tomorrow for you

check all ur wires has to be some where in the clip off deck to the 6x9s or ur old wires could be bad causing it to lower ohms from rubbing
on another wire causing it to cut off/out do u have a fuse in re back of the deck? if so make sure its the right size for
the unit other wise u might have to run another wire for power just so u get plenty there's two was of doing this
to ur fuse box to an empty fuse spot would have to use the one under hood takes some time to do this way or
just run ur power wire from battery but make sure u have an in power line fuse so id u get a surge it wont blow ur deck
and if its still happening lmk I got topic track

Grab a multi meter, pull ur deck out and test the impedance at the speaker wires, if one of them gives u a bad reading (>or < than 4) thats your blown speaker. Sometimes speakers have no symptoms that they are failing until the coil starts giving out, so theres no way to tell is a speaker its going bad until u actually test it.

Thats why your radio is clipping if u have good connections and assuming ur radio isnt fking up.

HOLY FUCK I THINK I GOT IT

instead of going through all that other trouble i decdied to try something else through the radio i messed with my balance turned it down went all the way rear which would be my shit speakers as i said so ounded liek shit but they played even all the way turned up

k so next i went all the way to the front and turn the radio up again and.... boooom off at 35 didnt even make it to 40

sooo now all i had left was to single the speaker out so iwent right front speaker first useing balance on the radio and that speaker went to 40 all by its self

sooooo i went left front speaker and it made it to 35 and booooom so i think iv finaly caught this shit lol

now im going to get a new pair of 6 x 9s for door and test then ill replace my rears just so it sounds better
lmk input please id like to hear you thoughts on this wether im right or stupid and whether it sounds correct or not thanks

i don't know if it would be possible, but if it's just one of the 4 speakers, could it be that the wire is shorting out? but i'm guessing that would turn off the whole radio..

any way to get some wire, hook it up to that channel, hookup the speaker up to it (i'm talking take out the headunit. cut the wires, then put the new wires on it) and turn the volume up
