So i'm trying to build a system together


So Far...

I Picked up 2x Kicker CVX 15's (4 ohm DvC)

and a Kicker zx.2500 Amplifier monoblock

How should i wire them together ....


to my understanding if i wire them in series i get 4 ohm load on amplifier and it does only 1250 watts of power

and if i wire them parrallel then i get 1 ohm load from subs on amplifier and it would push over 2500 watts and endanger the amplifier

so yea... what should i do?


1.) Hook them up parralel and see if the amp can keep up with it at low gains and that the subs can take the power
2.) Safely hook them up in series and only power them 1250 watts of power safely
3.) Sell the subwoofers and pick up 2x 2 ohm 15's to wire them in series instead
4.) Sell the Amplifier and pick up an amplifier capable of power at 1 ohm


So yea thats pretty much my options ... lmk wich route you think i should go

1. no. gain=/=wattage control
2. if you haven't upgraded your electrical system this is really the only option if you keep this stuff and this is still probably too much for your stock electrical.
3. refer to point #2 about this amp being too powerful for practically all stock electrical setups.
4. 2k rms isn't an easy task so as with #2 and #3....you need the electrical system for it.

hope you got a good deal on this stuff because its almost worthless to you as it stands.

Run the amp at 4 ohms on 2 subs..... or get another 2 woofers and have 4 dual 4 ohm woofers -> 2ohm

but blah at spending $400 on 1000rms watt kickers lol

i spent $300 on some 1000 rms kickers ... thought it was better then spending $200 on some 12's

so yea i sold the amp already just going to buy a new amplifier

any suggestions on what amp to buy?

was thinking of going Hifonics 2000 RMS at 1 ohm stable amplifier for $200

even at $300 there are still better options than kicker

also for your own good stop thinking cone size dictates subwoofer performance.

and dude honestly to run 2k daily is going to require you to have a proper electrical system.

what car you putting these in? cause at full tilt you'll need about 140 amps of power just to keep the amp fed. thats before you take into account the power your car needs to run(generally 60 amps if its newer with lights and stuff on)

not to mention that much output will rattle the fuck out of your vehicle if you don't spend $100-200 on sound deadening material.

also don't cheap out on the amp at this point. http://store.soundsolutionsaudio.com/products/sundown-audio-scv-2000d-2000w-mono-block-amplifier.html for example will hold up for a long time.

the hifonics is fine, i think everyone has ran them at some point or another... just be aware they put out dirty power very easily and throw away the bassknob that comes with it and buy an LC1 line level control. hifonics bassknob = bass boost which is horrible...

yeah they arent bad amps. not great but not bad. no need to go all out if your not serious about audio... check your local Craigslist for good deals

yep but the downside being if you treat them wrong their lifespan drops dramatically compared to a more heavily built amp. 2k rms on a cheaper amp with a person who has no idea about the stuff is basically going to end up as a paperweight.



imo he lost his right to be casual about it when he wanted to go over 1k rms. i've seen tons of the higher power hifonics fry compared to the say 1-1.2k rms models because people get in over their heads and then cheap out on build quality that can't handle their bad choices.

this is true but he has to start somewhere.... he is at the beginning of audio where he thinks mainstream audio is best with prefabs and small wire and no electrical upgrades.. ive tried helping lots of these people and basically they pretty much learn from their own mistakes.. thats why I said try Craigslist because you can get good deals and if you mess it up then your not out as much money.
