and idk, maybe 3k includes labor, i could go a little harder on budget but i thought 3k was a good number for something nice ^^

well here are a couple things you probably haven't figured into the budget:

high output alternator
possibly a new battery and possibly even 2 new batteries
sound deadening material

and because while the type-x is an okay sub it's not really excellent in any category.

also there is no real point in going with 2 subs over 1.

those are overkill for your needs but the point is mainstream brands are outclassed pretty hard if you know the market.

wouldn't there be more heat dissipation from 2 subs vs 1? my brother wants be able to shake the block when he wants to but have crystal clear bass and subs that will not blow out.

Alpine is a pretty reliable brand but I do not doubt there is better out there. What do you recommend for him? He can probably spend a little bit more than 3000. Also I was told that a car audio system would be a little cheaper to put in his car. He has an 08 Chrysler 300C and the battery is in the trunk and there is plenty room for 2-3 more batteries right there so the wiring will not be very long.

as long as you operate them within spec heat isn't an issue for a sub.

i can't promise a sub won't blow out ever but there are plenty of options out there with long term proven durability in general.

about the only thing that dictates how expensive an install is going to be is how much you want to install.

for example once you install an amplifier and subwoofer that is pretty loud you are forced to purchase better highs/mids and amp them to keep it balanced.

battery location is a bit of a non issue with proper wiring done. big 3 upgrade, alternator that can keep up with the power drain, large gauge wiring to prevent bottlenecks are going to be more relevant than the batteries location.

being in the trunk actually does little more than force some extra work tbh. you'll be replacing every bit of wire from the alternator to the battery and then running wires from the batter to the amplifier.

now onto the items you linked: the icon series is good but keep in mind those subs come with a 3 week+ build time estimate.

x series more for loudness oriented than sound quality so no not a very good choice for what he wants.

the SQ model is okay, but i'm not 100% on it being the right option here.


there are just a lot of options when you have money a good budget it will just come down to personal preference.

for example i can't force him to go with 1 sub over 2 if that makes him feel more comfortable. there are merits to it like if one blows out down the line you can just rewire the one you have left and use it alone.

it's gonna be around $700 for a gps head unit alone to give you a bit of perspective.

a couple good sets of components with be around $300

subwoofer prices will vary. figure $400 or so to fit his needs.

amplifier for sub(s) $300-500

amplifer for components probably $200-300

wiring altogether around $100-150

maybe $100 in sound deadening material

$100-200 on the box for the subs.

on your end it's a good plan for you guys to start checking local shops for custom ported box prices. prebuilts are okay but custom will let you have your choice in box tuning.


keep in mind that budget does not cover a high output alternator which you should figure $500 to be safe.

Is there any particular brand or model of subs that you can recommend for deep quality bass? what about for the the gps head?

wiring setup has a couple options. you can either get some prebuilt kits or do a custom job meaning you purchase it all separate to fit your specific needs.

sound deadening cost will depend on how much you wanna do. doing the truck lid is basically a necessity to avoid a lot of rattle, but you can go further if you want and do every last inch of the interior for example.

there are lots of options still but the box size requirements get bigger to.

there are still some odds and end to deal with like speaker adapter plates, battery terminals, dust covers if you want em, the alternator and so on.

Everything you linked looks nice except I think tony wants a little higher wattage on his subs than 600. He ran with Alpine Type-Rs which are 500w RMS and he would like at least 750w RMS

a bit more complicated than just RMS wattage.

SA series subs are really more in the 900-1k watt rms range but are underrated by the company.
